Project Description

The “Knowledge Centre” was a project to improve and streamline the search for information on the WorkSafe website, by supplying accessible content and reducing the need for PDF.

As with a lot of Government departments, the vast majority of WorkSafe’s important public information is produced and stored in PDF’s. Information such as publications, health and safety solutions, safety alerts, and guidance were in the past, all produced using PDF, over 1600 PDFs. This project was to gather and rewrite the most important content from those PDFs and place that content on HTML pages, which could be indexed and presented to the user and a very quick, accessible manner, and printed to PDF only if and when the user required, direct from the HTML source.

This search engine is built using lean semantic-UI on a Squiz and Funnelback platform. It was built mobile first and is extremely fast considering its workload. Filters and contextual search are used to make sure the content is always relative to the user need.

Steve Wardle was responsible for the end to end delivery of this project, including business and user requirements, user experience design, agile project management, design and prototyping, coding the entire website, user acceptance testing.
